Thanksgiving Celebration is here!

It's finally here! This is one of the biggest events and highlights of our year. You won't want to miss the video recap of the past year, exciting and never-before-seen (never-to-be-repeated) performances, and incredible Thanksgiving feast!

Turkey Time

Yes, it's your favorite fowl for this time of year... Turkey!

Not sure if you're like me, but I like to eat turkey at Thanksgiving. But only at Thanksgiving. =)

Thankfully, Tim So from a2f has posted some great tips on cooking turkeys - I'll probably be getting help from this article, and you might want to give it a try and volunteer to cook the turkey if your family has a traditional Thanksgiving meal.

GONE Music Video

Here's the video that was shown last week at GONE. Praise God for all the new people who joined us that evening, as well as many friends from before who came back to hear the testimonies.

I heard that a lot of people could identify with at least one of the testimonies from Will, Annie, Steve, Vivian, and Sam. It's so easy for our lives to slip by, even in things that we think are worth pursuing.

Time is precious - we're living in that "dash" between birth and death - so let's make the most of it in investing in what's eternal!

So, I guess the brothers win! =) Of course we were hoping to catch more, but not bad for a very rainy morning at Bodega Bay, and it was enough for everyone to get a tasty afternoon snack.

Afterward we celebrated with pizza (since we didn't get the hundreds of crabs we were hoping for) and Cal's victory over Oregon! What more could you ask for on a rainy Saturday?

Adventure to the Big C

Last Friday, Homegroups 4 and 6 ventured up the steep slopes behind Foothill to the Big "C". It was a beautiful, moonlit night and I'm sure we scared all the wild animals away with our boisterous banter as we ascended.

At the peak, we enjoyed a nice cup of hot chocolate (though most people were too hot from the hike to drink anything warm) and Andrew did his best to scoop out some marshmallow matter from the bag for each person...

After returning to civilization, we headed for Dana House for some clam chowder, foosball, and good ol' storytelling.

Dana House, for those who may not know, houses over 20 brothers from Koinonia, acts2fellowship, and Kairos. It's the site for many of our small groups, activities and fellowship times - like last week's get-together and this week's BBQ.

I've lived there myself for 2 years in the past, as well as Dan from HG 4. We checked out the infamous House Pictures on display in the living room and recounted some Dana House history - always full of intrigue and hilarious mishaps!

Gracepoint Fellowship Church sages? Board game night and Ugandan proverbs?

This last Friday we headed out after Bible study with Homegroup R.E.D. to Gracepoint Fellowship Church's building in Alameda for a Smorgas-board game night.  After starting off with a game called "Do you know your neighbor?" in which we got to learn some interesting facts about each other (like who was part of the "body worship" teams in their youth groups back in high school), we started in on the board games.  And, we had pretty much every game you could imagine, except for Monopoly: Settlers of Catan, Blockus, Risk, Taboo, Apples to Apples, and Guesstures, you name it.  As for myself, I tried a new game called Wise or Otherwise, in which we try and come up with "wise" proverbs, but these proverbs often end up being "otherwise."  Out of these possible choices, what's the real one?

An old Ugandan proverb says: "A man who loves you tells you to build ..."

- "... a sturdy hut."

- "... a house."

- "... his house."

- "... his house, as well as your own."

- "... on a rock."

- "... wisdom and love to last a lifetime."

One of these proverbs is a real Ugandan proverb - the rest are proverbs that our Gracepoint sages of wisdom - myself, Emily Kim, Stuart, Wynn, Steven Chua, Rick, and Mike Kang - came up with.  See if you can guess the right one and make your case in the comments - and I might reveal the real one later in the week!

College Missions Night!

This past summer was a packed one for many of us who went on mission trips. To hear about it all, we're having a Missions Night in lieu of our normal Bible study. Hear testimonies and watch videos/slideshows from fellow college students from acts2fellowship, Koinonia, and Kairos about their experiences this summer going to places like Honduras, Taiwan, China, Kyrgyzstan, and Cambodia!

News (9/22-9/28)

Well, it's been a long time since my last post - about a month now! - but hopefully I'll be able to post more consistently again. Anyways, the semester is in full swing now, and so is Koinonia. Good luck everyone taking their first Math 1A midterm this week!

As always, on Tuesday we have our prayer meeting at First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley (on the corner of Dana and Channing), but unlike always this week's prayer meeting is starting at 7:30 - pushed back from our usual start time. This is actually a permanent change (at least for the near future), so please make a note of that.

This Friday, instead of our normal Bible study on-campus, we're going to have a missions night at First Presbyterian Church with the entire college department of Gracepoint Fellowship Church. This past summer, 185 people from Gracepoint went to 6 different countries - Cambodia, China, Taiwan, Kyrgyzstan, Honduras, and Thailand - and many of those who participated were college students. We're going to get a chance to see various video slideshows documenting the trip as well as hearing personally from many people who went on the trip, so it's sure to be an exciting time. The actual night kicks off at 7 PM, but we'll be meeting for dinner at 6 PM - more details on that to come soon, but if they don't come, feel free to contact one of the staff.

On Saturday, we're going to have a Freshman class outing across all of Koinonia. The agenda? A BBQ picnic and sports, and finishing off the afternoon by watching the Cal vs. Colorado State football game together! Pickups will be at Anna Head West parking lot (the parking lot next to Crossroads and the Channing-Bowditch apartments), time TBA. If you're interested, please sign up here!

Finally, for those looking for a church on Sunday, or who are interested in checking out a church (if you've never really gone before), Gracepoint Fellowship Church service this Sunday will begin at 1:30 PM at Willard Middle School on Telegraph. For those in Units 1, 2, and 3, there will be walk groups (which are just groups that you can walk to service together with) at 12:45, and for those living Clark Kerr, Foothill, Bowles, and Stern, rides will be at 1:00. Trip to Sichuan, China

Our very own Daniel Yang went on a trip this summer to Sichuan, China to help some of those affected by the earthquake.

Highlights for this week:

Freshman small groups will be meeting on Friday for dinner. We'll be meeting at 6pm for dinner and then heading over to the Koinonia Bible Study - "This Is Your Life".

Afterward, we'll be going bowling along with Homegroups 4 and 8! Woo hoo!
